Science Tutors Help Students Succeed

Science is the study of nature: asking and answering questions about the world around us. From planting seeds in elementary school to high school advanced placement biology, physics, and chemistry.

Facts, concepts, and theories are introduced to students at ever-increasing levels of sophistication. As students reach middle school and then advance to high school, the academic demands often exceed what a student is able to manage alone. And as parents, we often lack the knowledge required to effectively assist our children. An expert tutor can help!

Your science tutor will:

  • come to your home
  • work one-on-one
  • adapt lessons to your student

Learn how a tutor can help your student, whether she is struggling to keep up or interested in extra challenges.

Chemistry Tutors

Chemistry students study atomic and molecular structure and how these relate to chemical bonds. Stoichiometry, acid-base reactions, redox reactions, and thermodynamics are all covered in high school chemistry. A solid grasp of algebra is required.

Good grades in chemistry are important for any student looking at a four year college, especially those pursuing degrees in science, engineering or pre-med programs. Honors chemistry and advanced placement classes are an extra challenge. These students have demonstrated aptitude in math and science and have possibly never before worked with a science tutor. Chemistry tutoring can help them understand the class, fill gaps in knowledge, and raise grades.

Tutors for Biology

Biology is the study of life in its many forms. It includes the study of cellular biology, including respiration and photosynthesis; genetics, including molecular and Mendelian genetics, population genetics, and evolution; and ecology.

Any student thinking about a career in health including medicine, psychology, dentistry, nursing, sports medicine, kinesiology; sociology; or environmental sciences will need a solid foundation and good grades in biology. A biology tutor brings knowledge and enthusiasm to a challenging subject to enable any student to improve performance.

Physics Tutoring

Physics is often considered the most basic of all sciences. It includes the study of motion, forces, energy, heat, waves, light, electricity, and magnetism. Physics focuses on the development of mathematical models to describe and predict natural phenomena and to express principles and theories. Understanding physics requires that students also understand and use algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. A large number of formulas must be memorized and students must know how to apply them. It’s easy to fall behind, but with the right physics tutor students quickly catch-up.

Tutoring Environmental Science

Environmental issues have come to the fore in public discourse, and school curricula have quickly followed.  Students are studying integrated waste management, energy conservation, water conservation and pollution prevention, air resources, wildlife conservation and forestry, and climate impact issues.

A knowledge of statistics, biology and earth science is generally required. Students who grapple with the complex issues presented in environmental science can benefit from consistent tutoring. Whether these students are on track for 4-year college, community college, or a trade, doing well in these classes will ready them for future success.

Tutors for Earth Science

Earth science covers a wide-ranging set of topics including astronomy which covers the structure and scale of the universe, earth’s place in the universe, dynamic earth processes such as vulcanology and plate tectonics, the structure and composition of the atmosphere, and the mechanics of climate.

Frequently a freshman (9th grade) science class, this course is challenging for many students. A tutor can make this difficult class understandable and help prevent your first-year high school student from becoming demoralized.

Middle School Science Tutoring

Middle school science classes are introductions to earth science, life sciences, and physical sciences. Often for the first time, students are required to read fact-filled texts, understand a broad set of new concepts and memorize a vast number of facts.

A tutor can help your middle school student master these classes and learn how to learn science so he or she is better prepared to face the challenges of high school science.

Elementary School Science Tutoring

Science in elementary school is where students learn to question and answer the WHATs and HOWs of nature. WHAT is being observed?  HOW does it work? Students must have an ability to process new information and acquire vocabulary. In later elementary years, more advanced reasoning skills are required.

If your student is struggling in science, don’t delay. Getting help from a tutor now will prepare your child to handle far more challenging work in the years to come.
